World Environment Day 2025: Mega Cleaning Campaign

In observance of World Environment Day 2025, Kuniya College of Arts & Science proudly organized Mega Cleaning Campaign on June 5, 2025, focusing on the global theme “Beat Plastic Pollution.” The initiative was organized by NSS Unit No. 98, in collaboration with the Dhwani College Union and the Department of English, reinforcing the college’s commitment to environmental responsibility and sustainability.

The program was formally inaugurated by Dr. Faiz Abdullah, Principal of the college, who emphasized the need for collective action to address the growing threat of plastic pollution. Mrs. Shaheeda Rashid, Chairperson of the Welfare Standing Committee, Pullur-Periya Grama Panchayat, graced the occasion as the chief guest and urged students to actively engage in protecting and preserving the environment.

A session on the theme “Beat Plastic Pollution” was conducted by Dr. Divya Padmanabhan, who shared practical strategies and encouraged students to adopt eco-friendly habits. Her session inspired participants to recognize their individual roles in environmental conservation, particularly through reducing, reusing and recycling plastic in daily life.

The program was efficiently coordinated by Dr. Jeena T. C, and Dr. Aysha Shama Rahmath, Head of the Department of English, offered words of felicitation and appreciation to the organizing teams and volunteers.

Following the inaugural session, NSS volunteers, along with students from the Department of English, initiated a large-scale cleaning drive in the Kuniya town area. The campaign was warmly welcomed by the local community and aimed at enhancing the cleanliness and aesthetic value of the urban surroundings.

A special effort was also made to collect used plastic pens from classrooms across the college campus. NSS volunteers took the lead in gathering, sorting and preparing the pens for proper recycling, highlighting a practical step toward reducing plastic waste within the institution.

The event concluded with a resonant message on the importance of individual responsibility and collective commitment to protecting the planet. The campaign served as a strong reminder of the positive impact that consistent community-driven efforts can have on the environment.
