Kuniya College of Arts and Science, under NSS Unit No. 98, observed World First Aid Day with a programme that brought together students, faculty and health professionals to highlight the significance of first aid in ensuring community safety and well being. The event was organized by the Department of Physical Education in collaboration with the Department of Social Work, NSS Unit and the KCAS Medical Assistance Centre.
The programme was formally inaugurated by Dr. Faiz Abdulla K, Principal of Kuniya College of Arts and Science. In his address, he emphasized the importance of equipping students with practical skills that extend beyond academics, underlining that first aid is a vital life skill every individual should possess.
The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Sajeevan P.V, Health Inspector, FHC Pallikkare, on the theme โFirst Aid and Climate Change.โ He explained how the changing climate has intensified health risks and natural calamities, making first aid preparedness more critical than ever. He also pointed out that timely intervention through basic medical assistance can significantly reduce casualties during emergencies, especially in disaster prone regions.
The session encouraged students to develop awareness about preventive health measures and the necessity of remaining prepared for unforeseen situations. It also highlighted the role of youth in promoting health and safety in society by spreading awareness and practicing responsible action in times of need.
The observance of World First Aid Day at Kuniya College served as a reminder that first aid knowledge is not only about responding to accidents but also about building resilience in communities in the face of global challenges like climate change.
